Transcription can use Parakeet on-device or a provider you choose. With your own keys, content goes to the provider you configured under that provider’s policy. Altere does not store those chats.
Before using client information, review your firm’s policy and the settings for your chosen provider. Altere is a productivity tool. Legal analysis, review, and judgment remain with the professional.

Does Altere give legal advice?
No. It captures, organizes, searches, and transforms the content you provide. Legal analysis, review of the result, and professional judgment remain with the lawyer.
Do my documents leave my computer?
It depends on your setup. Knowledge kept in Altere stays on the device, but AI calls you start may leave it. You can use on-device Parakeet transcription or configure the provider you prefer.
Which files can I watch?
Altere works with PDF, DOCX, spreadsheets, Markdown, and other files. It extracts native text first. Scanned or image-heavy pages can use on-device OCR.
Can I use my own keys?
Yes. On Full, you can assign models by role using Altere’s catalog, a provider with your key, or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint.
How much does it cost?
Both tiers are free during the Windows beta. Transcription is for dictation. Full includes Action mode, Quick Actions, Context, documents, chat, Organize, providers, and WhatsApp.
